Your ISP may be doing that, so check with them. Also, if you have an email client installed, set it to check for new messages every 5 minutes and leave the email client running.

Check power saving features of your ethernet adapter that interrupts internet connection. Open Device Manager and find the adapter. Open Properties and click Power tab. Uncheck turn off this device for power saving. You may also uncheck the same setting in Advanced Power Options of W 7. CoolGuy
