I have been asked to help out on a computer that is not connecting to the internet with IE... I am a computer guy, but this has me stumped! First off, I need to say that the computer was overrun with viruses.
Details are:
IE will not open webpages but Mozilla does
IMPORTANT to know *** IE will open fine in safe mode with networking but Mozilla works all the time.***Skype will not open
Remote connection (team viewer) works when the computer is in safe mode with networking, but does not work in regular mode
I removed a bunch of viruses but IE is still not working in regular mode.
I am not able to just reimage because the computer is remote to me by about 2000 miles
I did uninstall IE and have tried to reinstall it, but it the install failsPlease help!
What version of IE is the person using? Did you try just resetting it? Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions 7 Golds
it was IE 9... but I uninstalled it and now is using IE 8... it will not reinstall IE 9

Did you try disabling all of the IE addons? Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
I did a scan on the computer with EMISOFT Anti Malware and found trace.file.diple
backdoor.agent.aapo
trojan.autorun.te
trojan.generic.7147567After quarantiening them, Mozilla does not work now too.
Both IE and Mozilla work in safe mode
I did a netsh reset and that did not fix it either.
I assume the problem computer is Windows 7. Seems like it still might not be clear of viruses. Could be worth trying both of these on it:
MalwareBytes freebie

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
Clean out your quarantine.
Install, Update, and Run Malwarebytes in Safe Mode with Networking.
Try reinstalling in Safe ModeYou have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
