A classic problem. You are trying to install XP on a SATA drive. Read this article, for example and Google "XP SATA" for more information.

Be aware that installing XP will ovewrite the boot sector so that Windows 7 will no longer boot. Have your Windows 7 install disk ready to repair the boot problem.

✔ Best Answer

Best thing to do is to install Widows XP into a Virtual machine running under Windows 7

Windows Virtual PC if free and works on all versions of Windows 7. You do need at least 4 Mbs of RAM to make it effective and gives you that ability to switch between window 7 and Windows XP without re-booting.

Or, same thing, just install XP Mode as the OP is running Win 7 Professional.

Even simpler and you will still have a copy of Windows XP professional that can be used elsewhere.
