If you don't have a DVD drive then does your computer even meet the minimum requirements to run Windows 7?

So, do you maintain any backups of your personal files?

You can buy a DVD burner for little cash these days. Look at the link below.

You can use this method on a flash drive or another drive, but I am not sure how far that will get you. Might want to experiment with this.

i tryed that my bios does not have the option to boot from a flash drive and my flash drive is too small.what i was thinking was if i could break the files in 3 parts and put them on a CD instead of a DVD. what do u think if it would work i need to know what files would make the first CD i think i would need 3 cds.

Buy a DVD burner isn't just for installing Windows 7000 beta. I asked you above about backups. I'll bet you don't have any. DVDR is a good cheap method of backing up your files.

What do you hope to accomplish by installing Windows 7 beta on a marginal computer. If your computer dowsn't have anything more than a CD burner it must be old and not really a suitable testbed for Windows 7 beta. You do realize that Windows 7 will quit working on Aug 1st, 2009?

Well then borrow a computer with a burner from a friend. If you downloaded Windows 7 and received a KEY then you can use any Windows 7 DVD to install and then use your key to register. All downloads are the same.

Don't you know anyone with a finished DVD?

You could try to get it to work.

You'd have to mount the iso image to get the files off. A usb "how to" makes an assumption that you already have vista or W7 working already to issue the newer commands. Since the format of the ISO is new an older system or linux can't read it.

Then use robocopy or xcopy to copy the files to the disk. I'd make a small partition first to house the iso files. The install then might boot to PE 2.0 and create a ram drive. Then copy the install files to the ram drive. Then you might be able to install it that way.

Seems simple enough to ask some if you could let them burn the image or ask them to borrow the dvd burner.

It would be simple to borrow or buy a 4 gig drive and use "how to" to get W7 on it to try it that way. Not sure if the beta contains all the drivers you would need however for a usb drive.

See here for ideas.

That kind of helps me. I was working on a way to boot to a Vista dvd and then install W7. I can make a boot floppy from W7 the same way as vista floppy.

For all the trouble you could boot to a Linux OS and run a virtual machine.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

Wonder if a win boot disk with cd support would work or a barts floppy?

NOOOOOO!!!!

You read the usb how to's and understand what they are doing.

You then take that info and use what I said.

Make a 4 gig partition and copy the iso contents to that partition.

Partition being on your hard drive.

I also stated you might ask someone to burn you a disk.

Might be too old to run W7 if you can't boot to a usb. If you install the USB does bios see it as a drive?

Could use a floppy with Grub maybe to load the usb also.

See also this.

install your second drive in to the computer,
extract the win7 iso, using winrar (free download) to your current OS partion or any partion , BUT NOT onto the new drive!!, once extracted open the win7 folder, hit setup and follow the intructions to setup win7 on the new drive, its really is as simple as that.

you should have no issues doing it this way.

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....
