hey guys

this may be far feeched but can you install windows 7 with virtual ram, my current pc has 320mb ram, and ive got 512mb sticks but they crash my pc, may be time to invest when ive got spare money,

but this is what id like to do, i have a 4gb memory stick, formated FAT32, im able to make that completley virtual, that will give me a total. 4320.50MB ram, thatll be enough for windows 512MB, now, here inlies the problem,

when install a dos can windows reconise virtual ram, when in ms-dos mode to intall a os, can you somehow make your bios reconise the virtual ram?, therefore you os thinks its sweet, what if your os thinks you have that amount, can it make your os unstable?

this may be a fun task for a sunday, any help anyone can give will be greatly appreciated to helping me get my ol pc up to date!

thanks, pcben

RAM is inexpensive these days & sooner or later you're gonna have to bite the bullet & upgrade your RAM. For now, there's a workaround to help you bypass the memory obstacle.

Good luck!

Your concept is flawed. There may be somewhere a program that could run a tsr that uses flash as ram but I doubt you could get windows 7 to use it. Virtual ram as MS uses it is not what I'd suspect could be used.

There is a boot install command that can install to less than 1G but you really should get the correct ram.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

To upgrade the RAM in any PC, you need to:

1.) Know the maximum memory the board can take
2.) Know the board's memory bank matrix
3.) Look for one with the right density
4.) Avoid unbrokered chips at all cost
5.) Look for the right type/speed of memory

Have the above covered & you aren't likely to run into problems.
