No you cannot use a Windows XP prodcut key for Windows 7, you have to use a Windows 7 product key.
If you want to install Windows XP back on your laptop after you are done using Windows 7 RC1 then your Windows XP OEM product key will still work. Since i'm guessing that you are using the OEM Windows XP product key that came with your laptop, then you can only use that OEM product key on your laptop. It doesn't matter how many times you install Windows XP on your laptop, your product key will always work aslong as you use that OEM product key for your laptop and not other pc's.
