Well, I guess its a case of finding its file or files and deleting it - something I tend to avoid except as last resort. Of-course it might just be registry entries.

There are two possible ways to find it:
Put Optimuminstaller in Search. If it finds it then right click it and see if it gives the path to the program/files.

Run SpyBot. You right click click the entry and it should give these options:
Select this product (probably a check mark).
More details > Jump to location.
Save the results to file or copy them to clipboard.

If you find the information then shout back with the details and we can see if there is some way you can get shot of it.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Try MalwareBytes freebie from here (it might do better):

I just tried a scan with Malwarebytes and it detected nothing. Spybot Search & Destroy detects it but cannot remove it. My virus sotware does not detect it either.

What exactly is this Optimuminstaller ? Spybot describes it as an adware. Is it a virus ?

Thanks for your help.

I don't think it really bad. It's an uninstaller but it shoves adverts at you.
I would regard it more as "undesirable".

Have you looked in "Control Panel > Programs and Features" to see if it appears there - if so just uninstall it. If not see if it appears in your browser addons - in which case uninstall or disable it.

You could try running SpyBot S&D in Safe Mode - it might then be able to remove it.

I've looked in control panel and browser add ons, but it is not listed there. At least not under the name Optimuminstaller.

For some reason Spybot does not come up on my PC in Safe Mode.

Thanks.

OK, I think I may have got it. I ran Spybot and got the information. The path led to Google toolbar, so I uninstalled it and ran another scan. Now it no longer shows up in the scan results. Do you think I have it licked ?

Thanks for your help.

I've found some hits in Google that imply optimuminstaller is part of Google toolbar. Whatever, most toolbars are best avoided in my opinion. They rarely do anything that you can't do some other way so it's a good to get shot of it.

Sounds good.

Thought I'd said "some toolbars are dubious" (must have lost it).
