how to make toolbars bigger in windows 7

Specs: Windows 7
Just got a new computer with Windows7, using Firefox, all was fine to start with, nice large toolbars and nice big print, suddenly the menu bar, navigation bar, address bar etc have all shrunk to tiny along with the text size, even in Thunderbird I can hardly see the inbox. Tried to fix it in the control panel, doing ctrl + only enlarges the main page temporarily not the toolbars.

you can also right click on the desktop, choose personalise/windows colour/advanced and change the default sizes of text, icons, windows scroll bar etc...in the advanced settings..
