To install an .msi file you just double-click on its icon.

Right click on and run as admin user.

I tried double clicking the file, also running msiexec.exe but that process just quits, also as admin user. Any more thoughts?
Thanks, John

right clicking on the file does not give me the run as admin option. I have to open a cmd window for that as admin user. I am still bewildered. Any more suggestions?
Thanks, John

Thanks to those who helped. I have reinstalled (update mode) W7 and now all is well. Who knows what the problem was.
