Did you install the accompanying software for the printer?

Read the manual for the printer.

Yes, everything was installed. The printer has worked fine for over a year. I just can't find out the level of inks. Perhaps it is caused by the use of ink cartridges filled by Walgreens.

I would guess that is correct.

Did that printer ever give you that information?

I hate to break it to you but I don't think the printer actually measures the ink. I think it uses a counter to tell you when to change tanks. I know at least some work that way.

I really don't know how it could measure the ink. There would need to be a sensor in the ink tank or the tank would need to be accurately weighed.

I suggest you just run the tanks till the finished product is off.

HERE is HP document describing how to check the estimated ink level in the cartridge. Unfortunately it includes the following gotcha that applies to this situation:

If you have installed a refilled or remanufactured print cartridge or a cartridge that has been used in another printer, the ink level indicator will be inaccurate or unavailable.
