Most of the programs are available as 32 and 64 bit versions.
I strongly suggest to install the 32 bit version rather then installing 64 bit windows.

The only way to change from a 32 bit to a 64 bit OS is to do a clean install of a 64 bit OS. This will mean the loss of all data on the drive and you would need to reinstall all existing applications. Also be aware that some applications may not be compatible with a 64 bit OS. You may also have problems with obtaining device drivers. Except for some unusual situations this is not the way to solve your problem.

Also you may need additional memory since 64bit not only can use more memory, but only runs well with more memory. 32bit installs with 1GB memory, but runs better on 2GB up to 4GB (recognizes a little less than 4GB) and 64bit installs with 2GB but really runs best with 4GB or more.
Unless you have specific needs for programs that run best on more memory than 4GB, stay with the 32bit for that machine. As indicated above, you will have more compatibility issues with 64bit than with 32bit as far as programs go.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Also you need to be running a 64 Bit Processor on the Computer you are installing
a 64 Bit Operating System on, if not it will not install.
