i tried to buy from the US but couldnt, i tried to buy from germany and france, but they were sold out, i found a place in the Uk with some copies available and ordered and paid for two copies, but most of the pre orders are gone, and im sure they will not allow pre orders in most countries..this is the 1st OS since millenium that have bought, due to rediculous over pricing and poor finishing, however i like win7 so decided to throw some money at it while its at a decent price, anything over 49.99 and its just not worth it.

Yes, ordered two copies, Premium & business, with no problem. I was surprised to find that Amazon don't appear to know anything about the pre-order discounts, but Staples & DSG group both apparently still have them.

Even if I can't preorder ill wait for the family pack (3 licenses). 5 comps running 2kpro or xp. Its time. Should see the people out there "I won't give ms a penny" or "ill just wait for the pirated copies". God how lame! Lol.

After paying out the bu%#$ for Windows ME and a few others I
was kind of glad to see the cheap upgrade.
So I foolishly bought two.

Nah, you did the right thing & if you are apprehensive about a "Vista" regret situation, I suggest you do not pull the plug on your orders until you get the licenses.

Just yesterday, a colleague at work did so with his Amazon pre-order & they flat-out refused to let him reinstate the order after changing his mind & calling them back literally two minutes later as I offered to buy the order from him. Even though you probably won't be flipping yours, I can almost guarantee you won't have a hard time unloading at least one or both of your Windows 7 licenses at the pre-order price right after you get them.

I Might do that oth. Use vista as a backup os. You been playing with 7 much? Rc seemed to boot/run slower than the beta at first but appears to be getting better as I use it more.

i am of the opinion that win 7, "is the new XP", after all xp is not going to be supported very soon, vista is ok but annoying, 7 just does what you want it too, and does it well (in my humble opinion) sofar, apart from not having a driver for my marvell/asus wifi card, i havent had a problem, and its all i use on three different systems, nothing i have tried works this well and this easily, so like i said, i ordered 2 copies and expect to be happy with my purchases at pre-order prices, i just feel for anyone who has to pay full price...

"After all xp is not going to be supported very soon"

Says who?

"Microsoft also slipped in a reminder about XP's limited lifespan in its e-mailed announcement. "Windows XP is currently in the extended support phase and Microsoft encourages customers to migrate to either Windows Vista or Windows 7 as soon as possible," the spokeswoman said yesterday.

As per its lifecycle policy, Microsoft will officially retire Windows XP, halting all patch development, including security updates, in April 2014.

MS life cycle, is quite clear that Xp was slated till 2008, and extended to 2009, for low end pc's xp will be available till 2010,
the service pack/update/support life cycle for Xp clearly states that no other service packs are slated for Xp period,

security updates may be available for the time being and possibly upto 2014, however i suspect that misleading bussines jargon and will be only for corporate license holders.

if you think that will be a long lasting situation, i hope ur right for all those Xp users out there.

i believe Ms will use Win7 as their new flagship and will dump XP as an obsolete OS as soon as all new Pc's are succesfully shipping with win7, of course this is just my opinion,

In addition to my last post more clrification;
Microsoft also extended mainstream support for XP Home and XP Media Center until 2009, and pushed back the deadline for the follow-up phase, dubbed "extended support," until 2014, to match the dates that had been set earlier for the business-grade XP Professional.

According to Microsoft, the transition from mainstream to extended support for Windows XP means that it will only provide paid support -- on a per-incident basis, or through its various prepaid support programs -- and will only offer nonsecurity hot fixes for a fee, and then only to customers who have purchased the Extended Hotfix Support plan.

Microsoft will continue to generate free security updates for Windows XP and release them via Windows Update until April 8, 2014

Microsoft spokeswoman noted that support for XP on a new machine is provided by the computer maker, not Microsoft. "Customers who purchased Windows XP preinstalled on their machines will receive support from their Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) per the OEM support policy at time of purchase

hi,
i am also of the opinion that both versions will be included on 1 dvd, that said its also possible that was for the earlier versions, however, given that there are far fewer drivers in 64 bit form it may be that both versions are included to offer users a choice if driver issues become an problem for x64 users..or is that offering MS way too humanitarianism (is that a word?) it would be nice to find both versions include, the x64 version will not work with any of my wifi cards, inbuilt or pci, asus/conceptronic/smc, which is a real bummer, wifi seems to be the issue in all the different OS's that i have tried over the years..drifting, anyways i hope your right and both versions are included.

No I have not as I heard that in some contries, "Family" versions of Windows7 will be sold which will allow installation on several computers in the same household. I heard no decision has been announced as to whether this will be sold in the UK

There was talk of ALL features included with every version of Windows 7 would be included on the DVD. The license and install key would determine which version you would actually run. I think that method may be used with OEM computers. Makes sense.

The idea behind that is easy upgradeability. Just call MS, give a CC# and they give you a new code. Guess that idea would carry over to the 32/64 bit versions.

-Microsoft said on Friday that it will charge $149 for the family pack version of Windows 7, which allows users to upgrade up to three PCs to the Home Premium edition of the operating system.

Microsoft noted in some of its communications that the family pack is available "while supplies last." Given that Microsoft would seem to be in a position to make as many boxes as it wants, I pressed the software maker to understand how limited this offer will be. A company representative would only say that it is a new offer that Microsoft is testing and declined to elaborate on the time frame or the number of copies it was limited to

The Upgrade and Full packaged retail product of Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, and Windows 7 Ultimate will come with both 32-bit and 64-bit DVDs. With Windows Vista, the 64-bit version was only available with Windows Vista Ultimate. Due to the incredible adoption of 64-bit today and customer feedback, we decided to change this for Windows 7. Now all copies of Windows 7 in developed markets will ship with both 32-bit and 64-bit DVDs.

I want to emphasize that delivering Windows 7 at the highest quality possible is the biggest criteria we have for hitting RTM. Our top focus is a super high quality release of Windows first and foremost.

I ordered mine a few weeks ago when it was $50 bucks, so I cant wait till it's delivered. In the mean time I ordered a Western Digital 1TB black HDD to get ready for a fresh install. I might double my ram from 4 gigs to 8 when it gets to me. depends on how the 64bit plays with my sound and video card and my bluetooth adapter.
