How do i fix a mouse that hesitates?

Specs: Windows 7
When I move my mouse across my screen it hesitates. It is driving me crazy. I a on Internet Explorer 8.

if it's wireless, replace the batteries.

How is the rest of the computer performing? When other hardware or programs are using resources you may experience a lag. Do you have programs running in the background?

I'm starting to think it is only when I'm using office. It seems to happen more in Excel, Power Point and Word.

Macros that are used in MS Office can be a method for nasties to infect your computer. Do you use macros in MS Office?

I find that Malwarebytes works well for picking up and removing nasties that may have gotten past AV program.
Also remove unnecessary programs from start up using msconfig start tab, just uncheck and restart.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
