folders not opening when double clicked

December 28, 2012 at 06:53:01
Specs: Windows 7

when I double click on a folder it quickly flashes to the right hand side of the screen and then is placed into the window explorer folder on the status bar, also if i right click on a folder the only options to open it are with notebook. I have not installed any new software, i have run nortons and also trendmicro housecalls, and had no issues.

Try System Restore, choose a date that goes back to a time before the problem started:

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

@XPUser thanks but i still cant open folders, sorry am a bit a newbie! it's like the path of the folder is directed to windows explorer on the status bar. I can see the folder contents but cant do anything with it. Hope that this makes sense. Tried the folder fix at winhelponline, downloaded the folder onto the desktop and now cant access it!

System Restore will not have any effect on your personal files. It will have an effect on recently installed programs and updates though. It will roll back System Files, Drivers, Registry, and a few things directly connected to Windows running right. Updates and new programs can be reinstalled after everything is running right. If you have any trouble running System Restore, try it from Safe Mode. Use 'Show More Restore Points' if needed to find that date before the problems began. Restore points should have been created weekly and before every install and update. Next time, do not wait for problems to 'go away' but address them immediately, they are usually easier to deal with them then.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
