I have found I don' t use finepix. I use the Windows 7 built in photo wizard. If you want to use finepix I would think of reinstalling it.
When you start the software you have a screen for the check update When you see this screen click on cancel
Open the software finepix studio then go to parameters /software and put a check mark on the automatic upgrade to never....that should work for you.
I much rather prefer Picasa Free from google:
