Error on installation Windows 7 as dual boot with XP
Always get an error that Windows cannot be installed. Why ?
Have Windows XP on C drive. Downloaded Windows 7 *.iso file and burned it on a CDROM.
With Partition Wizard Home Edition 4.1 partitioned my first HDD into two equal partitions (80GB each) and formatted it as NTFS. It was the D drive
Started installation and chose for custom to install to the new D drive
After some re-starts it came up with an error message: "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. The Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.
When I do this it ends in the same result. I also tried a Vista installation, however, with the same result.
What's wrong, what can I do.
Thanks for any help

Win 7 will not fit on a CD ROM.
If you go to MS' site they note what must be done before installing Win 7 and suspect is related to your issue (unless it is simply you are actually burning the ISO to a CD versus a DVD).

I doubt if this is the case, as the same thing happens when I install a clean Windows Vista from an original DVD-ROM

I have also come across this issue, i rewrote my dvd at minimum speed, pulled out all external peripheral items and began the installation once more, it worked perfectly, i believe it was my bluetooth that may have caused the error..but im not sure
i now multi boot, xp, vista, win7 32bit and win7 x64, all work correctly.
hope this helpsi hate computers!
but cant help myself....

I also had a problem installing Windows 7. A web search found that it was a very common problem. The most often mentioned solution involved re-burning the disc at a very low speed. I tried it and it worked for me. It could be that the Windows 7 install program does not expect any read errors, and does not retry.

Eventually it turned out that the the sizes of the partitions I
wanted to install on, were not in line with the size mentioned in
the partition table. A low level format with the Samsung HDD
utility did not correct this, neither could Partition Wizard
Busness Edition 4.1. But the old Partition Magic ver.8.0 did the
trick and a dual boot installation, XP and Win 7 went without a
hitch.
