Download won't stop, it's been days!

December 8, 2010 at 16:20:11
Specs: Windows 7

I was trying to download something (it's been so long now I forget what!) but ever since it just says it's downloading. I cannot cancel it. Then my computer said I needed to update my Adobe Reader, so I said "ok" to install. Well, now that is stuck there on my desktop on top of the perpetual downloading of some program I forgot about! I can't close, cancel or install the Adobe Reader! But worst of all, the pc won't let me shut it down! Please help me rid my computer of these nagging, stuck wannabe downloads!!!

right click on the task bar and select Task Manager. Click on the Applications tab and see which applications are running and not responding and then click "end task". That should stop them. Now try to download the latest Adobe reader and see how you get on.

IF that fails, close all of your work and and try a restart of your computer. IF that does not work, press and hold the on/off button until the system shuts down (about 6 seconds), wait maybe 10 seconds after all activity stops and press again to start.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
This site is about helping people, lets keep it that way.

Fingers! Thank you SO much. For some reason I've never held down the power button to shut if off before. When I did it came up and started to check the disk, then VOILA! It's back to it's former self. Thanks for restoring my sanity. Merry Christmas and to you too Helmut!
