March 23, 2010 at 05:56:52
Specs: Windows 7

i cant install any programs in windows 7,64 bit. when i try to install programs it takes forever for the installation to come up, taking about 10 minutes to load and if it does install, when i click on the program icon , nothing happens. I have even put my CA Security on snooze, thinking it may be the problem but still the same, it wont load. This is a new desktop computer

I broke my crystal ball so I don't know the brand of your PC.

Is this an upgraded PC? Did it come with windows 7? Did it come with XP or Vista? Was it a clean install or an upgrade install? Were drivers upgraded? Also, as above - system specs...

Like what programs? From CD, or download?
If you are talking about a massive program like MS Office from CD or an antivirus suite, should still only take a few minutes typically. You have only a single core processor, and you did not mention how much RAM you have. If you have only a minimum of memory, it could actually take quite a while. post back programs and other specs.

Installed Physical Memory 4.00 GB
Total Physical Memory 3.75 GB
Availiable Physical Memory 2.66 GB
Total Virtual Memory 7.50 GB
Available Virtual Memory 5.41

The programs i am trying to install are video programs like different converters that convert from avi to dvd. also cannon camera program for downloading pics from camera to comp. They all say windows 7 compatable and i even tried running the compatability program and the same thing happens so that didnt work either

It sounds like one of these three:
1- There is an infection.
2- You have too much running in the background (very possible)
3- You have a bad RAM stick (uses more ram with these large programs and is running into bad segments)
(a possible fourth - you have another antivirus program that came with the computer that was not completely uninstalled and is interfering)
