Solved Can't disable touchpad on Dell Inspiron N7110

August 18, 2012 at 07:09:44
Specs: Windows 7, 2.5Ghz, 8GB

I have a Dell Inspiron N7110 and the Fn+F3 fix worked for the first two days, but now the touchpad is back with a vengeance and I can't type a full sentence without having the cursor jump to somewhere else, sometimes closing windows, sometimes doing other horrendous things. I have tried the Control Panel, however the "Disable" button is greyed out and not clickable there. So what can I do? As it is, my laptop is unusable.

My drivers are up to date. The problem actually went away when I rebooted, but I'm still left wondering what the problem was, and if it's fixable without a reboot, because sometimes you're in the middle of something that a reboot would be extremely inconvenient for, but the touchpad makes typing and most functionality almost impossible on this laptop, especially since the touchpad is so LARGE that you can't type without your hands hitting it.

Sometimes touchpad drivers have a facility to disable the touchpad automatically when a USB mouse is plugged in. Might be worth checking for alternative drivers.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
