Every laptop I have ever heard of will allow you to run it without a battery installed for as long as you wish. IBM suggested that you remove the battery if you are not actually using it as a portable device. If your laptop does shutdown I'd have it looked at. Maybe power pack is wrong to going.

Yes, you can run a laptop w/o battery pack installed. In fact, some laptop manufacturers advise removing battery if laptop is being constantly run on city electricity as Jefro already said. But you need the help of an UPS in case the city electricity is interrupted; otherwise, you lose your unsaved data. CoolGuy
