I was checking some history on my computer when one of the programs wouldn't open and a window popped up asking me what program to use. It was a video file, so I chose Windows Media Player. The video still wouldn't open, and then suddenly all my desktop icons changed. The properties show that they have all been changed to .lnk files rather than .exe, etc. I cannot open a thing. Many different fixes say to run a registry fix in Notepad, but I can't even open Notepad because Windows Media Player is trying to open everything. I have performed a number of searches online for help, and although there have been many previous similar problems reported, I could find no problems reported in Windows 7.
