Hey,
I bought an old LapTop, and I installed Windows 3.1 on it.
Now since these disks were old, some files can't be read. Fortunately, all the main Windows Files are fine. But the Write.exe file just can't be read. I re-tried, and re-tried.
Now one of the main things I wanted to use this laptop for is Writing, so I find it kind of funny that the Write Program can't be read.Anyway, does Microsoft have someplace to download Write? Or is there some good freeware Word Processor I can use?
Thanks for any help.

I can send you files from WFW3.11 [about the same] but first check and see if it's just the EXE or you need a DLL. HLP etc.

It depends upon what kind of word processoe you want. You can use EDIT or Notepad or GOOGLE for something with more features.

You can get Word5.5 for DOS from http://www.downloadsquad.com/2005/1...
It is something that MS used to give away for free.

I've searched Google and here for hours, and went to countless sites. I can't find any free word processors for 3.1. And I don't really want too use NotePad.
Mechanix2Go, I checked, I have the write.hlp.
I couldn't find a write.dll, unless its called something else.

Do you have a C++ compiler that supports MFC? You can get the source for Wordpad (same as Write on Windows 3.1) and build it.

I installed Word For DOS 5.5 earlier today. It's cool, was a bit strange as VPC2007 didn't want to load the mouse drivers:P but now I have a copy of pure DOS Word:P worked great.
If this equals that, then why does that equal this?

If none of the other replies are satisfactory, contact me by e-mail and I can provide what you need. There are several very good free text editors available for Windows 3.1. You will not need to use Notepad. On the other hand, there is only one Write program that can create and read Write files. So, decide what you want, and let me know.

Describe wordprocessor can read and write WRI files. Otherwise, there's write, exe (still available in OS/2).

3.1 can probably (MAY be able to) handle Abiword which is a free word processor and is small but capable. Just search for it, but I'm sure CNet download.com has it along with other old DOS/3.1 programs
