I tried to create a shortcut/icon on the desktop of a computer with Windows 3.1. The help gave me the info in Jonathan's July 2000 response, but I can't quite get it to work. Does any one have a more complete and thorough solution? I know how to find the winword.exe file in the file manager, but can't seem to get the shortcut for it onto the desktop. thanks BJ

Are you using Calmira, the freeware Windows 9x interface for Win 3.1x? Windows 3.1x by default doesn't have the ability to put shorcuts on the desktop.
If you are using Calmira, you should just be able to right click the desktop and point to New Shortcut, then click File. Then just tell it where the program is for the shorcut.

You need to place any Progam 'Shortcuts' in a Progam Group with Windows 3x. Open a Program Group (say Main) Click on File, Followed by New - Program Item and type in or use Browse for file location. Type in a Short Description and Click OK. You should now have a Icon for Winword in the Main Group.
