Windows Version History says it "adds 32-bit file access" Does this mean it is a 32-bit op system. I read on previous message that it was a 16 bit op syst. Anyone?
Thanks :)

val, this feature is a "precursor" to windows 95. windows 3.1 and windows for workgroups 3.11 both have "32-bit disk access", while wfwg 3.11 also has "32-bit file access". this basically speeds up access to files that you've recently opened; instead of reading again from disk, it reads from memory, being much faster popping up on your screen. so if you can turn it on, it's good to leave on! i usually have my cache size set at "2048 Kb"; i find that's plenty.

Read my reply a few posts up!

Windows 95 is really Windows Version 4.0!

98 would then be 4.1 and 98SE 4.11!

2000 being 5.0

That is if MS stuck to the old way!!!!

Hi!

Just for your information:

The original version of Windows 95 was version 4.00.950, the original version of Win95 with SR1 patch is version 4.00.950a, the OSR2.0 and OSR2.1 version is version 4.00.950 B, the OSR2.5 version is version 4.00.950 C. The Win98 first edition is version 4.10.1998 and the second edition is version 4.10.2222 A. Windows 2000 is version 5.00.2195.

James,

In your order of all things Windows,

Just where do Windows NT 3.5, 3.51, 4.0 & 5.0 fit in. I wound think that WfWG goes down that track, and not direct to Windows 95. Even if Win95 is version 4.00.950!
