I recently recieved a 386 to fix. The problem with it is the windows directory was deleted. So now when you start it up the computer preforms the memory check then says it is starting Wiindows 95, but the computer never starts Win95. It just comes up type the name of the command interpreter. What do I have to do to get the windows directory reinstalled on the computer so it will work?

If I need to reinstall windows could someone tell me where to get the disks for both windows 95 and window 3.1?

Please help me.

Have you tried the undeletion utility that comes w/ DOS? It should recover it for you. If it dosen't you will need to re-install windows. Here is a website that you can download windows 3.1, windows for workgroups 3.1, and windows 95A.

Is this the same problem that's still not solved?

Here is what you have to know:

If command.com doesn't load it means your entire operating system is dammaged.

You need to reformat and maybe even repartition your harddisk to reinstall whatever OS you want on it.

To install an OS on the machine you need to be able to start up from some bootdevice like a floppy or cdrom.
I guess you only have a floppy.

Go to the DOS forum and ask them how to reinstall DOS

Once you have done that you have 2 options:
-Return to this forum if you want to install Win3xx.
- Go to the Win9x forum if you want to install Win9x

Hopefully this ends your problems and postings for the same problem

If you want to install
