Hi,
Ok I format the HardDrive, then install
Windows 3.11. Then When it's done, I'm in Windows 3.11. It works fine. Everything is there and it works. then I click Start Shut Down, and turn off the computer. Then when I turn it back on. It won't boot or start into Windows 3.11. It also doesn't go into a DOS command prompt. I had to put in a DOS 6 Command prompt disk to install it. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP. How do I get it to load into Windows 3.11????

Stick that dos disk back in and enter
at the a: prompt sys c: ( i may be missing a backslash or something so check "help sys" in dos if it says 'bad command' to get the right syntax)
i think that'll do it...

This is a common problem. If you do a search for "start up" or something along those lines, I would bet you would find the answer to your problem. Sounds like you didn't install DOS first. Win 3.x isn't an operating system in itself, it sits on top of DOS. So, install DOS first then install win 3.x

Kingsxwe is right,It sounds like you didn't load dos in first... I would start all over from the bigining...F disk then reformat, then install dos-6.22 then install your windows...
then at dos comand promt type in (WIN) this sohould fix your problem... If you need help,You can email me..

Ya, Your right, I didn't put DOS on the Hardrive first. I did then I installed Windows 3.11 and now it works.
Thanks

i repaced my hard disk with a new one it went to destop then i shut it down the it dident go back to window 3.1 as far as i got was to dos promat i need help!
i need a web site to download windows 3.1
bootdisk. (please don't submit bootdisk.com)thx

adam1312,
Still working on this problem?
Hope you are still a beginner on computers and are
not offended by the simple things in the following.First, if windows is presently on drive, you can
type WIN at prompt. Or type: cd\windows and then
type: WIN (will work if windows is there.)If Windows starts and all is fine, exit from Windows.
Type: edit autoexec.bat
Add: c:\windows\win to bottom of file and then
save the edited file. Press and HOLD Ctrl and Alt
keys and then Delete key to warm boot (or use reset
button for a complete cold boot). Windows will start
(if no disk is in a: drive).Next, BootDisk will be for DOS (not Win3.x).
Since you get to DOS prompt, just put a blank
floppy disk in drive and type: SYS A: -OR
you could type: FORMAT A: /S to put system
bootup files on it. Set write-protect tab on
the floppy and leave in drive for bootup.
(BIOS may need to be set to boot to A: drive
for it to work.)
Good luck.
