Reply: (edit)Sorry, I meant "start up". The actual problem is: I'm turning on my pc, but on bootup it give me the System disk error (I don't know it by heart), but basically its the error given when a floppy is inside the drive whilst booting. The problem is that no floppy is inside the drive. I tried to use a system disk from windows XP, but when I got to start windows, a message appeared saying that the system disk had to be compatible to the OS (win 3.11)

Reply: (edit)Win31 is NOT an OS. As has been stated, it requires an actual DOS version in order to run (there is none in WinXP, only an emulation) You're receiving the message 'non system disk or disk error', which means that your c: drive/partition/whatever is not bootable to DOS. If you wish to run Win31 you would need a DOS partition (FAT or FAT32) with the appropriate DOS version installed, or an actual DOS bootdisk. Reply: (edit)Yes - but that is merely a DOS bootdisk that launches Windows. Sure, it can be done (for the DOS challenged) but it is in no way 'booting' windows The main reasons for using a bootdisk in the first place are to either troubleshoot a problem or else to install an OS. It can also be a method of booting multiple OS's (but probably not the best way) Those people that think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do
