Hi,
I installed Virtual Pc today, also installed MS-DOS, and I wanted to test a few Operating Systems. I tried to install Windows 3.11 and it worked great, until I tried to run it and the splash screen shows and then it just closes, back to DOS.

Typically that can mean an incorrect video driver or setting.

If that's the case, switch to the win311 directory, run setup and select plain old vga (16 colours, 640x480)

High res Win3x video drivers are practically non existant for newer hardware.

What version of DOS did you install?

I have had the same problem. This is caused by the Virtual Machine Additions. So removing them from the autoexec.bat and restarting the virtual machine will allow windows to load fully.

Just do a standard Windows 3.1 installation. When the video option comes up, select 640x480 16 colors or 800x600 16 colors. It should run without problems. By any chance, has anyone tried the new Microsoft Virtual PC 45-day trial version. I used it and it's a interesting concept.
