Hello,
I've got a P200 with 32Mb ram, and I want to have speed, so I'm gonna try Windows 3.11.
1) Is it possible to install DOS 6.22 on a primairy partition, which is called E: in Windows 98? (I'd like to preserve Windows 98). I could install it on another HDD but then I have to format FreeBSD and I like to preserve that...
Then, can I install Windows 3.11 from HDD, like uploading all floppy's to PC and then install it from there? After I've installed, first thing I'd like to do is have internet! I've got no modem in the computer, but I am connected to a network from which I can acces the internet. Can I set this up (and a network neighbourhood)
Then would you advice installing some eye-candy like Calmira or this one http://members.aol.com/W311rules/win.htm ?
Finally: I would like to run some software. Where can I download that? And is there some driver or something that enables me to run 32 Bits programs?

MS-DOS 6.22 will only install on the C:\ Partition or on a Virtual Disk.
You can install Windows 3.1 with Windows 98 if you re-name the install directory.
See the following post for info:

Probably... But what do you mean by Virtual Disk? And where can I get that patch for Dos 7.1? Can I install Windows from HDD, because I ones made a back-up of all my expensive software on hdd and Windows is on Hdd now, so installing from hdd would be easyer...
And can you answore my other questions to?

3XSTART can be found on my PowerLoad Win3x resource page. (Link above)
Yes Windows 3.1 will install if all the disk contents are copied into the same folder.

"Virtual Disk" means a emulated Drive C: mapped by a boot manager I think.
3xStart is used to patch WinDOS7.1 (from Win98) only, and no others. You don't need any patch for standalone ROM-DOS 7.1, MS-DOS 7.1 and so on.

Yes 3XSTART is only used to patch WinDOS 7.10 as supplied by Microsoft as part of Windows 98/98se Which is I feel what we are talking about here, and is a simple patch to IO.SYS to cancel Microsofts attempt to stop users from having dual Windows Installs.
MS really wanted to Kill earler versions of DOS & Windows to maintain it conversion to newer and newer versions, and greater profits!
Standalone MS-DOS 7.10 is a custom version of Win98's Embedded DOS which is already patched as part of the custom process. It is not marketed or supported by Microsoft in any way. (Not that it makes it any better or worse)
Standalone MS-DOS 7.10 can in fact be over-installed WinDOS to aid multi-boot and dual Windows 3x/9x setups.

At the present, no version of MS-DOS can be marketed, supported, or licenced by M$. M$ has claimed that MS-DOS was dead since almost 2 years ago, no matter what version it is.
For reasons only known to themselves, M$ didn't support any version of MS-DOS any more. But of course, we still do. I get e-mails on that MS-DOS almost everyday and therefore have written serveral knowledage base articles (and will write more). I really hate to see the words "Windows 98" when I type "VER"...I know that there are more people who hate to see these words as well, like this one.
Unlike most other DOSes, it's capable of LFN, FAT32 and LBA of course. But of most importance, you can only start Win9x as well as Win3.x from it. It should be standalone, with as many as GUIs on top as you wish. I have tried to start Win9x from other DOSes, yet they simply won't work (although I do know why they won't work).
I in fact have more interests in DR-DOS when in Nov 2002 I heared that DeviceLogics started to develop DR-DOS 8.0. However, I was very depressed when I got it in the end.

Ok, many thanks! I'm gonna install Windows 3.11 :)
Could you answer this questions to?

If you want to access Internet via network on Win3.x, I'd suggest you to install Windows for Workgroups 3.11 instead, since which has many more Internet features. WFW 3.11 is actually a network-enabled version of Win3.11.
Many Win3.x/WFW3.x programs can be found at Lightspeed's site, including Win32s which enables you to run some 32 bit Windows programs from Win3.x/WFW3.x:
