1.- boot your pc to the dos prompt eg c:>
use a boot disk if necessary from bootdisk.com, look for ms-dos 6.22
2.- after booting to dos type the command
cd\windows\setup.exe
3.- a blue screen shows with your selections for computer type, video display type, networking type
4.- change your video selection to what you had before you did the changes. If you cannot remember, set it to vga.
5.- save the settings and attempt to boot windows normally.
6.- post results of what you got afterwards

Thank you so very much. Your "fix" worked great! It can really be frustrating to rely so much on computers to do my work, yet not be able to fix them, especially when it was my own fault. Again, thank you very much. I hope you visit this site often...with my luck, i'm sure I'll be back!

yes necessary to know
strange, if you type setup at c:\ you get windows setup ( installation)
but if you do as the gentleman suggests you get the same info as clicking on the setup icon but in dos where you can see the screen.
if you have a large enough hard drive
copy all the windows disks to a directory
NOT names windows . amd use that dir
for example c:\win31 ( copy all floppies here) and after the first time it asks for the cd or a certain floppy
( which is " certain" tho have errors!!)
you will save a lot of time and effort.
it takes less than 12 megs of disk space.
