Hi everyone, I'm a sound artist looking into making a concept album based solely on the Event sounds, Startup sounds, Shutdown sounds, Misc sounds, and Error sounds of Windows 3.1.

The music will be made entirely in Windows 3.1, mixed with vintage Windows media editing equipment, then filtered through my own feeds to my current computer for transformation.

Is there a specific directory, or place inside Windows 3.1 that I can copy all of these files that are used in Windows 3.1? I'm having a bit of trouble initially adjusting to the interface, as its been 10+ years.

If anyone happens to have a folder of them all, please let me know if you can somehow transfer them to me, or tell me how to get to them and copy them in my own pc.

Hope that you can advise,
Thanks.

Anyone know where any of the others can be found, or does anyone run 3.1 who can just copy the folder and email it? It wouldn't be too big.. not going to Gmail..

Would help me a lot,
Thanks..

Listen to The Sad Mac by Stephan Mathieu.. Interesting concept.

What others? There were only 4 sounds with Windows 3.1 (not including the canyon.mid midi file). If you have (had) a specialized sound card with additional sounds, then those were included with the setup disk(s) for the card and not Windows 3.1...

Nobody can copy the files and send them to you without being in violation of the Windows licensing and copyrights.

I doubt there would be a issue with just .wav's (especially since there being hosted on a University of North Carolina ftp server)...

The sounds in Windows 95 are exactly the same as those in Windows 3.1, just that there are more of them.

Just like T-R-A said, there are 4 in Windows 3.1:

chord.wav
chimes.wav
ding.wav
tada.wav

So it if it's easier just search for those 4 on a Windows 3x or Windows 95 machine and copy them. I really don't think anyone will bother with you copying the WAVs, considering up to and including Win3x is up for download on many legit sites. (Especially if it's your own copy!)

I use Windows 2000 because I can.
