I've been looking up freeware(not shareware) and drivers for windows 3.1(only!)
lots of 16bit apps are in 32bit installs or 32bit exe zip files! any one know of a complete(or at least lengthy) index of windows 3.1 programs with out shareware and 32bit apps mixed with and in?
what bugs me is I can help but think some one has already done this
A google search would probably yeild what you want.
The main reason many come in 32bit exe zip files is that people have compressed them on more moddern machines which is where they have stored them now. Why not download them on a modern computer, unzip them and put them to disk's or cd's and then run them from Win3.1?
Also installing Win32s would be a good idea if you already haven't, as some progrmas require this to run.
The drivers tend to be a bit easy to find, if you know where to look, try driverguide.com or just googling the hardware name and any numbers, such as GDI65554 (a Cirrus Logic gfx card number).
and if you had ever used windows 3.1 to surf you would know that driverguide does not work right... try it yourself sounds like you will be in for a suprise!
now realy...
I was speaking of any people here who might know of or have windows 3.1 info&stuff(freeware&drivers etc...) that I dont have or know of...
Plus walter I do have some drivers you probably don't have, because there for my hardware beleive it or not. Also my 3.1 machine has not been on the net because I've never been bothered to do it. Why waste time when my other machines can go straight onto there get what I need and then I transport the required files over.
but it's a good 'jumping off' place for all things win31 related.. (now i wan't actually implying that using win31 makes you *want* to 'jump off' a tall building...:)
cool! nice to know that window 3.1 rocks in 200X! heh
thanks for listing lightspeed its a good page but... it has way to many links to non windows 3.1 pages&stuff I sent an email to him telling him of such things and he said there was nothing he could do about it.
the facts you point out are true if I was using some othere os I would ... not want use or need windows 3.1 programs
some people must not understand my post... I'll try again...
first lets clear this up... I'm using dos&windows 3.1 right now dont bug me about some os I dont have
I've been searching for 16bit windows 3.1 freeware programs drivers and any thing else usefull to windows 3.1
I was hoping there might be other people who have archived windows 3.1 freeware& or drivers.. which I might have missed and dont have or... maby I've got stuff they dont who knows!
as for people who dont like and or use windows 3.1 dont go crazy just disregard this post ok?
at the windows 3.1 ROCKS! yahoo group I stated the problem that windows 3.1 did programers seemed did not seem to have a place to upload there latest works here is what came of it http://win31.no-ip.org/freeware/ so far I've been uploading files here heh probably need a mirror eh?
it now contains windows 3.1 programs that can be found no where else... because I created & uploaded them
freeware is what I'm looking for & making but... I did create folders for shareware and abandonware because some seemed to be interested intrest in it
I created a windows 3.1 group for windows 3.1 programing http://groups.yahoo.com/group/watle... if you have any freeware programs that are not on the ftp already upload them to the groups file section
I had 2 boxes or windows 3.1 software... i need to think where i put it... i'll do some digging around. I kept them cause I wanted to start a website and host win 3.1 stuff but never could find a host that would let me due to copyright stuff.
Give me a few days to look around and see if i can find it, I had a bunch of games I wrote in QBASIC for dos as well.
