i have a 286 that i use for testing rgb monitors. i put dos 6.22 on it but it dose not find the extended memory it says unable to control A20 Line Himem not loaded.it has 2mb ram but windows will not install without extended memory how can i get windows and or dos to use extended memory (xma)driver? any help apprechiated.

Pulled this from a DOS 5 manual:

Himem.sys has a /machine:xxx switch to use if problems with A20 line. Substitute either the number or the machine equivalent for the xxx part of the switch. Hope it helps.

OOPS! I don't know how to format messages correctly. The first word after the number is the optional word; everything after describes the computer. Numbers 12 and 13 have two entries. Sorry.

I used /machine:1 on my old himem.sys statement. That was equivalent to the IBM AT and any clones that usually followed it.

I'm sure glad to see other folks are using Windows 3.1. I still run it on my Pentium III
