Comment:
I have windows 3.1 on 6 floppy disks or diskettes or whatever.

When i install windows 3.1 i get about 38% when it says please insert disk 1... Disk 1 is already in. On the bottom right corner it says that it is copying winhelp.exe.

Winhelp.exe is not on any of the floppy disks... i have tried copying them all to a cd and start the install by running setup.exe and i get the same problem.

Is it possible to download winhelp.exe somewhere or get disk 1 somewhere?

thanks, Ian

I can send you the Winhelp file if you want. It would have to be the swedish version though, but I don't think the setup would notice. Post back if you want it.

You should find a file "winhelp.ex_" on disk 1 (note the lack of the final "e"). Windows 3.1 executables (that are installed) have the last letter as an underscore. Windows 3.0 files do not, but you need to expand both in order to manually install. Copy "expand.exe" (should be on Disk #3) and "winhelp.ex_" to an empty directory and execute (without the quotes):

"expand winhelp.ex_ winhelp.exe"

If one of the files (in this case winhelp.ex_) won't copy, then likely you've got some bum disks.

The file it's looking for is "winhelp.ex_" (on disk 1), which it then expands to winhelp.exe.

Good luck.

Sorry, T-R-A. It looks I should have reloaded my page before posting.
