Hi Benny,

I have win 3.1 and XP on my home PC. When I set my machine up I created a 2 GIG Partition formated with the FAT file system. I loaded Dos 6.22 and Win 3.1 on that partition.

I then loaded Win XP on another partition formated NTFS. I can read the DOS Partition from XP but I can't read the NTFS partition from DOS/Win 3.1. That a sacrifice of using NTFS for my XP Partition but it's well worth it.

When my machine boots it asks if I want to load Windows XP or the previous operating system. When I want Win 3.1 I just have to choose "Previous Operating System". It all works really well and Win 3.1 simply screams on my AMD XP 2600.

Ryan.

You can use FAT32 and dual boot between XP and DOS71 - see this post

I think you can also do dual-boot configuring boot.ini and making a line for DOS...I just use 3.11 in a virtual machine...it's easier...

I agree with El-Trucha. It is easier to use a virtual machine. I use the Bochs x86 PC Emulator for Win32 and I have a lot of configurations. They include
PC/MS-DOS v3.x,v4.x,5.x,6.x, and 2000
Windows 1.x,2.x,3.x, 95
Windows NT 3.1, 4.0
Windows 3.1 Workplace Shell Configuration with Win32s (Because I like OS/2 and the Workplace Shell so much! And OS/2 doesn't run on official Bochs yet. I have the Diego Henriquez binary which I got OS/2 v2.1 to run under. It's based on Bochs 1.2)
And last but not least is the MuLinux Distribution (And I also like the GNU Open-Source).
I'm wondering if it's possible (Probably) to run CYGWIN in under the Windows 95 Configuration.

I forgot. I also got Desqview/X 2.x to run under Bochs. Classic Desqview is still a no-show. I finally gotten Lotus 123 2.2 (DOS) to run (There was a video problem, but it was easily fixed). Lotus 124 Release 4 is also a no-show.

Virtual PC, VMWare, or Bochs -- these virtual machines are okay as well as real machines.. Install DOS and Win3.x on a FAT32 (or smaller FAT16) partition, and enjoy them..

Yeah...and also, I used a Windows 3.11 boot disk (thanx Wengier!!) on a 2002 machine (Athlon XP 1600+) and it didn't recognize my USB mouse...I had to use the PS/2 adapter...so I recommend a virtual machine...
