Win3.11, 98 and XP LAN

OS: WIndoes for Workgroups 3.
CPU/Ram: Amd2000 Netgear NIC
Comment:
Before I start, Changing operating systems isn't the solution. They run something that only has 3.11 support (yes, said i know) BUT I can't change OS's. I am looking into OS emulators.....

Problem:

Setting up a network with current operating systems to me isn't to difficult but today I've been asked to connect a Windows 3.11 computer to workgroup network thats got a cross of Windows XP and 98 computers already connected.

I've installed a Netgear NIC thats got Win3.11 drivers and quickly tried to load the TCP-32 3.11B stack and manually configured the IP.
(Also i thought running Netbeui might make things easier)
On the 3.11 computer I can ping 127.0.0.1 and its IP(192.168.0.4) so im pretty sure TCP is loading properly.
The 98 computers can see the computer in network neighbourhood but can't access it.
The XP computer just doesn't wanna have a bar of it and just simply refuses to do anything.

Any idea on whats going wrong?
Whats LanManager? Can it help in any way?
My guess is My TCP-32 3.11B stack is older then the one used by the other computers on the network and therefore nothing works. Yet netbeui seems to half work. Im outta ideas.

Firstly two versions of Windows 3.xx, if it is Windows for Workgroups then TCP32 is needed as well as IE5 16bit, if you have a DHCP server or ICS on the Windoze PC then you can auto Assign IP etc.

If it is the non Windows for Workgroup version, then MS Client 3.0 is required and is set up from within DOS and Windows and not as reliable as W3.x WfW

Look at:

http://www.wown.com/j_helmig/win3x.htm

Also under Windows 9x in an MSDOS Box or under Windows NT/W2K/W2K3/XP in a Command Prompt Box you map the drives which are on the W3.x PC;

net use * \\computername\sharename

If you can not obtain an IP auto remove the network settings from W3.x and rebuild using just TCP/IP, I personally never use NETBeui ( I never use it with DOS Server NWC3.0 ) and by default XP does not include anyway:

http://www.wown.com/j_helmig/wfw311.htm

IE5 has better security etcetc, thats all, but 4 should suffice, also if you can receive a web page you know your LAN is intactus:
