take win95 or win98 bootdisk...place bootdisk in Floppy drive...turn off pc and then turn back on...when booted your pc will load with the files on the bootdisk, If you have a cd rom select the cd-rom option at the "A:\> prompt type "fidks" select the option to remove drive setup...after fdisk run turn pc off with same bootdisk in slot and reboot...again let the bootdisk load all of its files, and if you have a cdrom select the option with cd rom support, and at the a prompt type "format c:"(you can also add the switch " \s" to make your drive bootable, it does not matter though as after the drive is completely formatted you will restart your pc again ad run windows setup...if the cd is bootable start with it in the drive..if not restart again with the bootdisk and after it loads type "setup.exe" at the "A" prompt...this should get you going

I would not suggest FDISK or a FORMAT...

if there is nothing wrong with ur current partition & or if u have no plans to add any more partitions...then FDISK is unnecessary...& would prove to be a superfluous procedure...

only FORMAT ur drive if it is absolutely neccessary...

Win3.x can be removed by simply using the DELTREE command...

example: DELTREE /Y C:\WINDOWS

typing setup.exe at the A: prompt (as stated above) will not install Win95...the setup file is not located in the bootdisk...

if u are installing from a CD-ROM then u must point to that drive:

example: D:\SETUP.EXE
or
D:\WIN95\SETUP.EXE

if u are installing from a FLOPPY DISK SET then u must remove the bootdisk after u get an A: prompt...then insert DISK #1 & run setup from there:

example: A:\SETUP.EXE

setup will guide u through the rest of the installation...

HTH...

if ur boodisk gives u menu with the option to:
Install Windows 95 Setup From CD-ROM...
choose that & the driver for ur CD Drive will be installed & Win95 will begin the installation process...

SCANDISK will normally run B4 the installation begins...if SCANDISK reports errors than a FORMAT may be necessary...if no errors are reported, then allow the installation to continue & follow all instructions as prompted...

Later...

They are both correct so listen to bothe of them.

Since FAT 16 OS will not recognize HD karger than 2 gig, you have to use Fdisk, other wise your 120 gig HD will be read as 2 gig HD.

When installing new OS, it's always better to start from zero, format and delete lost clusters, lost files, corrupt files etc that may cause problems later on.

However, if you have some programs/files that you want to run later on, Fdisk and format will destry them all.

Good luck
