Hi people,

I found this site a few days back and posed questions about installing win3.1.

Thanks to all the help I got I was able to track down a very simple solution.

DosBox is a GNU license DOS emulator. I installed it.

I created a folder in the root \win31
In that folder I created a folder disk1
I then copied all my 3.1 diskettes into c:\win31\disk1

I ran DosBox and it starts up at drive Z:
I created a setup.bat file with the following in it

mount c c:\win31
mount a c:\win31\disk1
path=c:\;c:\windows
c:\windows\win

The last command will fail this first time as that Windows folder does not yet exist.

I ran that within DosBox then

A:

Then

Setup

This did the full 3.1 install. At then end of the install instead of clicking "Reboot" I clicked "Go to DOS" then exited DosBox.

I restarted DosBox

and bingo up comes 3.1 and everything works.

Thanks to all who helped.

Dave

Good for you!

I used to use DOSBox, good program, eh? Too bad Windows 3.1 doesn't include drivers for the video card it emulates, so you don't get more than 640x480 @ 16 colors.
