Hi!
I have a big problem. I had a comp. with windows 2000 op.sys. And i have an another machine with windows 3.11
I have changed my o.s. for Windows XP.
My problem is: i can't connect my win 3.11 to my winxp. The question is WHY??
Thanks for the help

You need to install NetBEUI which is normally an option in windows but MS decided that it wont be needed...but then again...so they included it in the winXP install CD. Path is \valueadd\msft\net\netbeui
(LOL ...valueadd!)
Copy nbf.sys into the %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ directoryCopy netnbf.inf into the %SYSTEMROOT%\INF\ directory
Open Network Connection Properties under Control Panel
Click the Install button to add the NetBEUI protocol. They will now know how to talk to each other again. HTH!

If you where networked quite happily before you installed XP try disabling the firewall on that interace. Also you will have to ebnable nebios over tcp/ip in the XPs network card, under the WINS tab I think IIRC.

You don't need the NetBEUI protocol if you don't want to. If you download and install the W311 update for TCP/IP you can us this protocol for W311 and windows XP. I use it without problems on W98 and ME machines.
You find the download on various W311 abanoneware sites
Good Luck
Mr. T

Same as above I recommend you to install the MS TCP/IP stack for wfw 3.11. you can find it at:
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/Clients/WFW
get the TCP32B.exe and the WFWFILES.exe. Follow the instructions on the help file enclosed to install and configure it. You don't need another protocol under WFW 3.11.
Last enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP in Windows XP, it it isn't enabled yet.

Installing NetBEUI always quickly solved the problem of networking older systems with win98/nt for me so I never really investigated TCP as an option for 3x/dos systems.
Thanks for the lesson MisterT and the link dieymir. :) I will try this out.
Vizipeti, hope you got em talkin' :)
