A few days ago I installed DOS version 5.00 and then Windows 3.1.
Everything worked fine .I also installed Calmira.Again everything worked fine.
Now when I boot up the computer I get A:\ prompt then I switch to C:\ prompt. When I enter WIN I get a bad command.
I am sure this was the sequence I used every other time or have I missed an obvious step?
Did not change anything between good and bad commands.
Thanks

..have you left a floppy disk in the A: Drive??

Do you have a floppy still in the a:\ if so remove it and try again, I never had much luck with DOS 5, I remember when it came out and had nothing but problems and ended up going back to 3.22 until 6 came out and then it seemed they were on the right track.
If you like cut and paste your autoexec.bat and config.sys from the c: drive and post them here
someone will come along and get you on the right track.......Keep the old stuff running

Thanks for the replies.
Floppy driv e is clear. It was a miracle I got this far I am afraid that the autoexe.bat is beyond me.

hiho
Me Too Me Too....you must have got in there before me as no one yet had responded....;)dixie
Dont worry were here to help....you need to cut and paste (try google or ask a friend to help)
and post them back here.....if you have all the files and some working hardware you should be in business soon.........LaterKeep the old stuff running

That's a bit hard to understand if there is no floppy in the drive (almost seems impossible)The explanation is bound to be fascinating

Heh - that remains to be seen. Apparently a working installation of 'DOS7' along with the 3xstart patch didn't satisfy the OP.
I'm having trouble imagining how things got so screwed up as to result in the situation that's been described here - I have a few guesses, but that'd be counterproductive, can't wait to hear the tale (or see the DOS startups)

Aw, c'mon Dix - we're interested (almost intrigued) - and can probably help

I have the same problem except with Dos 6.22
I solved my A:prompt by not using a Boot floppy, but the C:> problem remains. It also effects other programs suppose to open at the prompt.
my config & autoexec.

You might try putting windows on the path:
PATH=C:\DOS;C:\WINDOWS;
Other things can also be put on the path:
Whenever you key a command in DOS it searches the current directory then searches the path.Best
