Comment:

Installed "Word Works" 3.0(?) to system by cd so far ok. Then I installed "First Choice"(word processing/spead sheet)in to win 3.1 would not take so went to
"Dosshell" and installed it there.
Everthing was alright for a few times now it says cannot find MSWORKS\msworks path when I'm in windows etc etc. tried to trouble shoot msworks with its own trouble shoot sys and comp replies cannot find MSWORKS.TXT. Went to dosshell and tried to use" first choice" and wouldn't responded then it said not a valad directory. Was going to reload MSWORKS and now Windows won't read/reconise the "cd drive" but "Dos" does. Anyways I can't use either word processer. What the hell happened.

I assume by "Word Works 3.0", you are actually referring to Microsoft Works 3.0 (your MSWORKS references further down also give this impression).

First Choice (at least that which I have used) is a DOS application and should be run from DOS or a DOS prompt (or at least in a DOS window) - this is likely the DOSShell you are referring to.

When you say 'Went to dosshell and tried to use" first choice"', is this what you are doing:

C:\> first choice

You need to find the executable (likely under the directory First Choice was installed under), and then execute this, such as this:

C:\> cd \fchoice

C:\> fc

It's been more than 10 years since I've used First Choice, so I'm not sure of the directory name or the executable (DOS program executables don't have spaces in their names) - the executable should have an extension of ".com", ".exe", or ".bat" - look for this by doing this:

C:\FCHOICE\> dir *.exe

C:\FCHOICE\> dir *.com

C:\FCHOICE\> dir *.bat

"Was going to reload MSWORKS and now Windows won't read/reconise the "cd drive" but "Dos" does"

Windows 3.1 uses DOS for drivers, so if the CD Drive is recognized in DOS, it should be recognized in Windows. Look for the drive letter, such as "D:", "E:", or "F:" (could be something else).

What you have written and what I have written are semi-incoherent, so let me know what needs further clarification.

Good luck.
