joe, it sounds like you tried to install a mouse or something? some software will modify your system.ini file, which is one of the files that windows uses to boot up. so when you go & delete a directory and/or files, the modified system.ini file still contains information pointing to the directory, and it looks for it when you boot up - hence the "cannot find device file ..." message. the best thing to do, is either delete your system.ini and win.ini files, and reload windows, or delete the entire windows directory altogether, and reload windows. make sure you back up any data that may be in your windows directory first. you will need to re-install anything else that you've installed since installing windows the first time.

FOR THAT PROBLEM THIS IS THE SOLUTION THAT I SAW. FOR ONE 486 DX2 IN WINDOWS 3.11. I HOPE THAT IT SERVES TO THEM. SORRY BY THE PREVIOUS MESSAGE MY INGLES IS NOT VERY GOOD.

WIN.INI
(WINDOWS)
LOAD= C:\MSINPUT\POINTER.exe ----->DELETE

NEW
WIN.INI
(WINDOWS)
LOAD=

SYSTEM.INI
(BOOT)
MOUSE.DRV=C:\MSINPUT\MSINPUT.DRV ----->DELETE

(386 ENH)
KEYBOARD=C:\MSINPUT\MSINPUT.386 ------>DELETE

NEW
SYSTEM.INI
(BOOT)
MOUSE.DRV=MOUSE.DRV

(386 ENH)
KEYBOARD=*.VKD

AUTOEXEC.BAT
SET MSINPUT=C:\MSINPUT
C:\MSINPUT\MOUSE\MOUSE.exe

NEW
AUTOEXEC.BAT
REM SET MSINPUT=C:\MSINPUT
REM C:\MSINPUT\MOUSE\MOUSE.exe

WITH THESE CHANGES IT LOADS WINDOWS IF IT WORKS THAT WELL AND IF WITH THESE CHANGES YOUR SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK. FLOCK THE WIN.INI, SYSTEM.INI AND WIN.COM. IT INSTALLS WINDOWS IN FAST INSTALLATION NOW AND IF IT WORKED.
