Greetings All...

Have an old Dell OptiPlex GXa 266 EM+ with onboard Lan(3Com) -- 3.11 WFW installed w/TCP upd (DOS 6.22)

Cannot get the 3Com driver(3C905-TX) to register with 3.11. Using TCP with DHCP. WFW will not start the network driver..."unable to load," type popup when 3.11 starts.

Main goal is to get this system out on the net and eventually down the road, network it to several other operating systems.

Have IE501 installed, just banging my head against the keyboard for a day and a half trying to find the driver the system likes. Have tried Dell's website, installed drivers from both 3Com and Intel with no luck. System at boot is giving a MAC address(00 C0 4F 8E AC DF) but DHCP is failing....

Am beginning to think I am missing a configuration setup direction in autoexec or config file. Is there an entry for DHCP in either or both files? Says, cannot find LBIN, BOOTP, DHCP files.

I've installed mouse drivers and cdrom drivers...both work fine. Only other problem is IE501, when executing, gives
GROWSTUB caused a General Protection Fault in module GDI.exe @ 0001:4521. Figured I would attack that issue after the network issue however.

Is anyone able to give me direction or is this a lost cause....(try reinstalling?)

Thanks in advance!

Steve

Thanks for the URL x86...Had it bookmarked and used. No luck.

Detect does not detect even when the driver for the onboard Lan is in the list.

Tested the RJ-45 port and it is fine.

Any other clues before I scrap it and try a reinstall?

Thanks

Onboard Lan is fine...had FreeBSD running off the port about a week ago. Doesn't mean it is out however. I also did testing with a configuration program and was receiving packets. Figure its the goof at the keyboard that messed up something in configuration, being my first time actually installing the OS rather than looking in from the power user viewpoint. Computers don't lie, correct? Heh.

Thanks for your interest.

Will try reinstalling and if nadda, have a guru buddy bang his head against the CPU for a while.

Thanks all!

If you are trying to access internet through LAN, then try installing NetBIOS Protocol on both computers. It worked for me.

Maybe it's a bit late...but i can solve your growstub prob... it's likely your mouse cursor application...if it's in the 'load' or 'run' section of your system ini , remove it and it will probably solve your growstub errors....
