Read Timboy's post. Had same situation w my old Compaq. Couldd't run 3.11 over Win95's DOS that was left over after an incomplete format C. So I ran my ME bootdisk with Delpart.exe added and used the latter pgm to erase all existing partitions. Then installed Dos 6.2 (on 3 Microsoft MSDOS installation diskettes) followed by 6 of the Win 3.11 diskettes. My installation deems to be OK. But I do have a question for the 3.1 forum:
A total of 8 Win 3.11 installation disks came in the sealed package from Microsoft. But during installation I only was asked for the first 6 of them. I would think that Disks 7 and 8 have something important on them but there they are on my desk, unused.
How can I/Should I install these two "extra" floppies (disks #7 and #8)?

Thanks from this Forum first-timer for your advice.

PS. I look forward to computing enjoyment as I take frequent breaks from my Win2K muscle box in order to kick back with that old friend, Windows 3.11.

Hi paradox8

If Win311 hasn't asked for them don't worry - mainly network & printer drivers. If you install hardware that requires one of these, you'll be prompted.

jboy's correct. You're apparently installing Windows for Workgroups (8 disks vs. Win3.1/3.11's 6 disks). Disks 7 & 8 are mostly network & printer drivers, and if WfWG did not detect a network card when installing, then 6 disks is all it should use for installation.
