I think my system is posessed or somethig.
I am currently running win 3.11 WFW on a
486 33mhz comp.
Why is it that when I try to run Netscape
Navigator 3.0 or Internet Explorer 3.0 I
get the error message "A newer version of
windows is required"? I thought these
applications were ment for win 3.11 and
should run with no problem.
What can I do?

Both of these products ware also released as 32 bit versions also. The version that was written for Windows 3.1x is a 16 bit version of the one that was biult for Windows 9x. Be sure that you do infact have the 16 bit versions installed, and not the 32 bit versions. Although Win32s is avaiable for Windows 3.1x, it will not let you run 99% of the modern applications. You are basically limited to applications that came out in 1996 or earlier. Even a certian number of these 32 bit applications will run on Windows 3.1x wit Win32s installed.

This CAN happen using the 16-bit versions. When I uninstalled Windows 95 a few months back it returned me to Windows 3.1. While in Windows 3.1 I had the same problem trying to install the 16-bit versions of IE3 and netscape 3. The only solution was to reinstall Win 3.1. After that all was OK.
