My nephew suckered me into helping a friend with the installation of a BestData 56K modem. It only has drivers for win 95 & 98. Anybody know of a set of drivers for the Rockwell chipset? Any assistance would be appreciated.

Here's your problem, Kemosabi. It didn't come with Window 3.11 drivers for a couple of reasons. First, because Windows 3.11 is no longer supported, except by small third party groups. And second, because if you're using Windows 3.11, then they best you're computer's going to be is maybe a 75 mhz 486, and there's no way in hell that a 486 is going to run a 56K modem, because a 133 mhz Pentium can barely handle it.

Not a problem.
I cannot speak for BestData modems, but a good place to start is http://www.56k.com for info on configuring your ports, etc. to get you up and running with the 56k/Win3.1/486 combination.
It is possible, as I've been running at 56k (3com Sportster/Win ver 3.11/AMD 5x86) for almost two years now. Although the setup software will not list or recognize your 56k modem, oftentimes selecting a generic 28.8 kbps (yes, I know it makes no sense), adjusting your port speed manually in setup to 115200, and then getting the proper AT command init string will do it. The catch is that it is not in the manual. I found out by
visiting 56k.com and consulting with a knowledgeable ISP techrep.Good luck.

I'll be very thank full if i get any kind of driver that will work for usrobotics 56k modem.
