Comment:

I hav an old computer and it had WinNT on it so i formated the hard drive but i used a Win 95 bootdisk to do so. Now I want to create a Win 3.11 disk so i can format and do it right, but everytime I try to do it, the computer says that since I used a different boot disk i cannot creat one, how do I do it? Or if anyone knows the files needed for the boot disk that would help too.

You can't do a win 3.11 boot disk. You need to create a MS-DOS boot disk. Go to File manager and format a disk with system disk option. Your disk needs io,sys and msdos.sys their are systems files. copy command.com in the disk.

Amilcar - yara fuckwit! Yar drinking jungle juice or somefing?

Whatisname formatted the drive using a Win 95 boot diskso he don't have access to file Manager or DOS system files. DOS system files have the same name but are different sizes, configaration etc.

So sit down - think how yar wood install first DOS 6x over a previously formated drive (do ya install DOS first or format the drive first?), how yar wood install Win 3x and repost a reply that is correct.

And this is just a warning shot - nowhere near a broadside! Fuckme - landlubbers!

Matt, I don't understand what the problem is. Did it copy the Win95 system files to the hard drive, so now it won't let you install 3.1 because the disk "has a newer version of Windows"? You should be able to use the Win95 bootdisk again, and format WITHOUT copying the system files. Then you should just be able to boot off the DOS install disk, and go from there. Or you could use the sys command to copy the system files from a DOS disk, giving you a bootable hard drive with whatever version of DOS was on the disk. Check out http://computing.net/windows31/wwwboard/forum/2031.html for more info...

Fuck me! Yar just as stupid as the other bloke!

The blokes got a hard drive that is formatted with Win95 system (I'll call them DOS for ease here) files. Win3x (or more correctly DOS 6x) won't install over it since amongst other things, command.com and io.sys are totally diiferent - that's where his problem is! The error message when he wants to install any other version of DOS.

So what does he do? Instead of giving fucked half-arsed suggestions, you could of said:

"Well, what I suggest is that you get hold of a copy of the 4 DOS 6.22 disks. At the same time, get a copy of Windows 3.11 wfwg if you do not have the disks.

Insert the first - setup - DOS disk in the floppy drive and start your computer. I presume it boots - looks for the system start files - off the floppy drive first, then hard drive second. Post a message back here if you have problems.

When the computer finishes reading the installation instruction off the disk, end this particular installation by pressing F3 twice.

At the command prompt, A:\> type FDISK and press Enter. Experiment in here with settings. The Primary DOS partition will be a maximum of 2048 Mb downwards. The final size will be determined by the BIOS chip, hard drive size (in cylinders), version of DOS and version of Windows. The item with lowest settings is used - in your case probably the BIOS chip so don't be surprised if 528 is the largest you can get the Primary DOS. Set this partition to Active.
Create an extended partition using all the disk space that is left (this is a "shell" only). Then create logical drives within the extended partition. Leave the floppy disk in and exit the Fdisk program - saving your changes. Allow the computer to reboot - yes off the floppy. This records on the hard disk your new changes. (Saving and recording are 2 different actions)

After your computer has rebooted, as before exit the installation. At the A:\> type FORMAT C: and press Enter. This will format the hard drive using DOS 6.22. When the formatting has completed - a disk name is optional and can be done\changed in Windows 3.11 - reboot your computer. You'll notice here that DOS 6.22 will format ALL the previously unformatted drives one after another - very handy.

This time when the installation instructions come up on the screen, press Enter and install DOS.

After DOS has been installed and your computer rebooted, if you have a CD-ROM drive, install it now. Don't have the setup disk? Get a copy from the manufacturer or use a generic (standard) setup disk. Reboot your computer and install Windows 3.11 wfwg."

But no - you fuckers had to fuck the poor bastard about. Fucken surprised you pricks know anything about DOS. Yar probably think it means Denial Of Service. HAHAHAHAHA

Ah well - whadda yar expect with landlubbers.
