I'm trying to fix someone's 386 machine which crashed taking WFW 3.1 (?) with it. I've got DOS running, but when I tried to install my Win 3.1, it balked saying it required a 486 - get the other version. Any ideas?

Never heard of Win3 throwing up this error, because the minimum for Win3 FW is a 386, and the minimum for plain Windows 3 is a 286.
It should work - when does the error appear (at what stage of setup)
