Feel I posted this on the wrong page befor.
(win 95 page.)

This is related to a Compact 386s 6.22 DOS works fine but when win 3.1 starts up I get VSHARE.386 failer IFSMGR.386 failer and PROGMAN.exe failer. Have made and tryed to reinstale win 3.1 but I get ERROR 214 WINHELP.exe cannot bet loaded or copyed.
I would like to reinstall win 3.1 without reformating the hard drive 386 are rediculesly slow to re setup.
The win 3.1 setup disk come from a very smart individual that used a mirror restore programe to make the startup disk. (copy the disk exacly down to the sector.) Have used the CD to make DOS disk 6.22 no problems and the win 95 mirror disk program also is succesful. Is there any serious helper out there that can offer usful info? I feel the x-splanation may be a long on so please use my E-mail if you like.

Hi Rich Bucklew:
If you want to do a clean install of Win 3.1 without formatting, you can use deltree to remove just the windows directory & all files in that directory. Then use install disks, but you might want to backup any data using msbackup to be safe. Once you get your PC working again I would make a complete backup of windows to floppies so that if you have problems again you can just deltree windows & restore backup through c:/msbackup, make sure you have programs you will need to install again. Also try defrag & scandisk to check hard drive, these a DOS utilities.

Good luck.
