Hi, I'm having some big problems with my compaq LTE 4/40 cx. Okay I had win 95 but it was too big so I reformatted the hard drive and installed win 3.1 or at least I think I did. I had to download 7 disks but the computer only asked for 6. You can probably tell I don't know that much about this subject! :-) But my dad (before finally giving up) restarted it, and now it says "bad or missing cd1.sys
error in cofig.sys line 5
device driver not found: banana
no valid cdrom device drivers selected"
After trying a bunch of commands himself, (my dad once taught computer and knows alot about them) he gave me a list of commands to try, and none of them have worked. I've also tried using a dos 6.22 boot disk,I tried using the 7th disk too and nothing will work. Should I throw it in the trash??? It was working this morning, but now......GRRRRRRRRRRR! >:-[ Help pleeeeeeze!

Its just trying to load cd rom drivers.
You should just be able to REM them out of the config.sys and autoexec.bat files.
Look for lines with cd1.sys and mscdex.exe in them.

Use the MS Dos "edit" to do this-

edit autoexec.bat

and

edit config.sys

Alt-F-S will save them
Alt-F-X exits

Banana? That doesn't sound right, try removing whatever is on the fifth line in your config.sys file.
